Annie recommends "Lost Gold of the Republic"
In the past, during an Atlantic hurricane, the SS Republic is sent to the bottom of the ocean, along with a speculated cargo of gold and silver coins, bound for post-Civil War New Orleans. In the present, Greg Stemm, Michigan native and founder of Odyssey Marine Exploration, exhibits incredible perseverance in his quest to find the lost treasure. The author weaves together two fascinating stories, one of the passengers and crew aboard the Republic, the other of the efforts of Greg and his crew to finish the story. A great adventure story. As a bonus, you can view some of the treasures salvaged from the SS Republic at the Detroit Science Center, now through September 1, 2008.
